MEET JIM

Representative Jim Jonas is a lifelong educator, coach, and community leader who has dedicated his career to serving students and families in West Fargo.

Jim spent many years as a teacher and coach, including serving as an assistant coach at West Fargo High School, where he helped lead the Packers to seven state championships. He continues to serve his community as a member of the West Fargo School Board, advocating for strong local schools, responsible use of taxpayer dollars, and opportunities that prepare students for success.

In the community, Jim currently serves on the board of directors for the West Fargo Education Foundation, the West Fargo Exchange Club and West Fargo Events.

Jim and his wife, Denise, have deep roots in the community, and his life’s work has been centered on investing in the next generation. His experience in the classroom and in local leadership gives him a unique, practical perspective on the challenges facing North Dakota families.

LEADERSHIP & IMPACT

Jim is a proven, trusted, conservative leader for North Dakota and District 13 focused on strengthening education, supporting families, and ensuring government remains accountable to the people it serves.

In the Legislature, Jim Jonas brings a strong, results-driven approach shaped by his background in education and local leadership.

Working alongside fellow Republican legislators Senator Judy Lee and Representative Austen Schauer, Jim helped lead major conservative wins this past session:

  • Historic Property Tax Relief: Tripled the property tax credit—delivering up to $1,600 in relief—while capping local increases at 3% and putting property taxes on a path toward elimination
  • Smaller, More Efficient Government: Eliminated 16 boards and commissions, launched a review of more than 150 committees, and created a DOGE-style task force to cut wasteful spending
  • Stronger Education: Sponsored and helped pass North Dakota’s landmark cell phone-free classroom law and reinforced parental involvement in education

Jim currently serves as Vice Chair of the Political Subdivisions Committee and as a member of the Education Committee, where he works to ensure policies reflect the needs of North Dakota communities.

During the interim, he serves as Chairman of the Education Interim Committee and as a member of the Special Education Funding Committee, continuing his focus on strengthening schools and supporting students.
